'06 Avalanche 2500

I finally found a new '06 2500 Avalanche on a Chevy dealer's lot. These vehicles are rare and hard to find. They come only in the 4X4 version with the 8.1 liter big block engine standard, as well as 4L80(?) transmission and 3.73 gears (4.10 optional). They also comes standard with the Autotrack transfer case and On-Star. This Avalanche is essentially an SUV version of a Silverado 2500 and then some. The big block gives it effortless acceleration. The ride is smooth, probably better than that of a 2500 Silverado.

I was surprised to see that this Avalanche came with a homelink transmitter (built-in garage door opener) in the overhead console and it was listed as a $ 100 something option. And the vehicle did not have a sunroof. Why don't they offer it in the Silverado for the same money?

I do not know what the tow rating is, but it is probably over 10K lbs. And fuel economy is a moot point with these large engines and 4X4 running gear.

My buddy has an '02. I've driven it several times and like you stated the power is always there and the ride is very nice!!!

Definitely a nice vehicle, but pricey! They had a fully loaded one at the same dealership and it stickered for over $ 48,000! This one had the sunroof and rear DVD options, as well as leather seats, running boards, and the navigation radio, which you cannot get in the Silverado.

$ 48k is definitely a fully loaded 3500 Duramax crew cab 4X4 dually territory!

The 8.1 in the Avalanche and the 'burban have the 4L85E trans. A little stouter version of the 4L80E.

Thanks for letting us know that HomeLink is available in the overhead console W/O the sunroof. Like you said WTF!
