clutch life

Gentlemen,

in general, how long do clutches tend to last in normal mixed driving and twice a month towing of two horse trailers? I am seeking info based on your experiences and observation of friend's experiences. Normal people driving normal trucks under normal conditions. Just trying to get a general feel.

Thanks,

Ken

Well my 86 GMC had 125000 on the clock and the clutch had never been touched, I did add fluid to the hydrolic cylinder once in all the time I had it. At 75000 miles I could prove pulling a trailer of some type 16 ft. stock trailer, 16 ft flat bed, 12ft utility trailer, one time I even hauled kids singing Christmas Carols on two 16 ft. trailers hooked to each other with about 30 people on each one. :seeya:

OOOOPPS I forgot 42000 of those miles had a trailer behind the truck.

I think it's more related to the driver. My first new car was a stick and I toasted the clutch every 30K. Of course I beat the snot out of it and regularly slipped the clutch and just basically drove it like I was in the Indy 500. My buddy had a stick in his 1990's era K1500 pickup and had 120K on it when he sold it and the clutch was still solid.

Bottom line, if you don't slip and abuse the clutch, it should last a good long time. If you beat it, plan on replacing.
