static/gurgling sound?

Looking for some info on a gurgling/static sound comming from behid the guages and vent area. Seems to be constant especially at start up.

Also inquiring about the sound the AC/Heater fan should make. Mine seems to buzz at low speeds on settgins 1,2,3.

If these are normal sounds so be it, I can live with them, I just want to be sure I get them checked if they are suspect. (factory Warranty is running out 3/14).

Thanks in advance.

The A/C system on these trucks tends to make gurgling and hissing noises inside the dash. Do you start your truck with A/C on? As far as the blower motor noise, it should not be a buzzing noise.

Thanks for the reply, I do not start the unit with the heat or a/c on. A buzz sound maybe incorrect, but there is a sound other than blowing air ???? It is kind a quiet zzzzzzz. It is hard to explain...

I've got the same sound on my 04 and was wondering the same thing, no A/C on etc.

There is a bulletin on the dash cluster noise,I'm unable to post it here but heres what it says:

"Noise Coming From Instrument Panel Cluster-Some customers may comment on noise coming from the instrument panel cluster while driving or on initial start-up during guage reset. The noise changes in relationship to the tachometer movement.

The cause of this noise may be the tachometer stepper motor.

Replace the instrument cluster with an exchange unit through normal

procedure.

Upon initial request of the exchange part,be sure to mention the noise issue and request an exchange unit that has had the tachometer stepper motor replaced as part of the previous remanufacturing process at the exchange center."

The bulletin is number#04-08-49-015 and is dated May 4,2004.

I couldn't find any bulletins on a "buzz noise" at low speed fan settings for the HVAC system.

Gents,

Let me know how it goes at the dealer. My 2004 is having the same noise and I didn't take it in because I knew the dealer was going to tell me that the noise is "normal."

Do I just let them know about the TSB and that I want it fixed (in a friendly manner of course)?

Thanks for the great info!!

Well, took the truck to the dealer today and had no problems. They will replace the instrument cluster with an updated version (something about the rpm gauge will go all the way up during startups). However, they warned me about the new version having the same noise or even a little louder which GM considers normal. Part is on order so I'll let you know how it is when it gets installed. Thanks for the TSB!

The new cluster should not have the same noise or louder. They need to pay attention to this part of the TSB...

Upon initial request of the exchange part,be sure to mention the noise issue and request an exchange unit that has had the tachometer stepper motor replaced as part of the previous remanufacturing process at the exchange center.

The updated parts are much quieter.

GM Tech,

They replaced the instrument cluster and there is some improvement. The noise only comes up when you start the truck, after that it becomes quiet. Did I get the "right one"? I mentioned the TSB and they said all of them are updated now.

Thanks for your help!
