hard or no start

I have a 1997 chevy k1500 with the 5.7L vortec engine. it has a hard time starting sometimes. there is no real consistancy to the problem. sometimes it starts right up, other times you have to crank it a bunch of times, and some times you have to dump gas down the intake, then it starts and runs fine. its like it isnt getting enough fuel to start it. it sounds like the pump is running, and the pressure is around 55psi. i tried changing the fuel filter, cooling temp. sensor, and cleaning the mass airflow sensor. any ideas of what it could be would be greatly appreciated.

thanks, Dan

Not good. Minimum is 60 psi and yes, that little bit can mean the difference between starting and not starting.

BTW, 60 psi is with the key on, engine NOT running.
