84 Lumber

Well, I got the news on Monday that I am being Involuntarily Released from Active Duty. My grand career as a Naval Aviator is over due to being medically grounded for amblyopia (llazy eye, left one is 20/30 uncorrected but they couldnt correct to 20/20) and the Navy is supposedly "too big" right now. So not I am going to take the education that they paid for and my 10 mos as an officer in the Navy and look for another job.

Anyone know of someone, themselves work or have any experience with 84 lumber? Their manager trainee program states they teach you to do estimates and material lists, which would be helpful to me down the line. My brother-in-law works for Hearthstone, a large custom log home company, as a salesman and has his own business designing homes in the East TN area, so i am looking for experience that would help me, or us, expand his business one day to complete projects.

Bad news is I'm selling my truck :chevy:. Easy to make the payment on an officer's salary but not having steady or a large income makes it a burden.

Buying my dad's 96 c2500 eclb with the old 6.5L dinosaur and a 5 speed manual though. 130,000 and he has had no problems and it will be great truck on the farm in East TN. Plus, the price is real right since he is getting stationed in Germany in June and wouldnt be taking the big thing anyway. I told the old fart he should retire, but 2 more and he will have 30.

Couldnt you have it correct as a civilian? I would imagin that you have benifits from the Navy. If you can get it corrected you could work as a civilian aviator. Good luck to you and hope everything works out.

I'd never heard of them until they opened one up within two miles of my house...I'd have to say that they have the most helpful people I've ever seen in a lumber store. They (generally) know their stuff.

As for being an employee? I have no idea. But what's your degree in anyway? As has been said, go civilian air...Heck, you can get your private pilots license in a couple of months for less than 5 grand. Commercial pilot is a bit more involved (see: more expensive), but not much of a leap from private. Just don't look at how much the schools are for flying one of dem dere whirlybirds...WOW, are those high.

Good luck man. :banghead:

If flying is your passion, don't get out of the field.

You could fly a corporate jet or maybe for UPS or Fed Ex

There are very few people who have had the training you have, make the best use of it.

I would stay flying if you can.
