Supercharger on a 140,000 mile motor?

Would this do any damage?

I'm no expert but I would think so. That's a lot of miles!

It's got about 133,000 miles right now, but it will have around 140,000-145,000 miles on it when I can afford a charger. You think a rebuild is in order?

Probably cheaper to buy a crate engine to install the s/c on, but don't forget the new transmission you will most assuredly need after that many miles (consider a 4L80).

Mine has similar miles and feel that it could handle a super charger, You are the only one that can determine how solid your motor still is, mine feels tight and strong. With Rebuilding it you are bringing more variables into it, with the oppurtunity to introduce sub standard parts, mistakes and in the end up with a supercharged rebuilt engine that is worse off than supercharging in original condition. I think it will be fine these engines are designed for the higher rpm's, it should handle it just fine.

Man, my truck is faaaaaaast already. It runs strong, never breaks down either.

Rings!!  Id check compression first.

I agree...Get a cylinder leak-down test and/or compression check, and see where you stand.

My '92 has 156k on it, and there's no way I'd put forced induction anything on it...That thing would grenade the first time the boost hit it.

But if your engine is healthy....Sure, why not?

I have been thinking the same thing on getting a S/C on my truck. Only problem it has 160,000 on it runs strong no leaks. Going to have a compression check and see where I stand. Might wait untill I rebuild.

blowers are going to add stress to any motor. I don't know much about the vortec's in these rigs, but the it's pretty easy to ruin the bottom end of the motor when you run boost, not to mention a few of the other variables, like fueling and spark knock that can eat up the pistions.

Usually, a blown motor will use a lower compression than a N/A motor.

That being said, while I have a supercharged buick regal as my DD, I have dealt with lots of people that have well over 150k on them with a blower and they run fine. However, when adding a blower to an engine that did not come with one. I'd seriously look at a partial rebuild before putting on a blower, or starting with a lower mileage unit.
