radio on...but no sound

Hello all,

I have a 99 tahoe with the factory am/fm/cassette with the non integrated single cd player. The radio is powered on and recieving a signal but absolutely no sound. No static, no nothing. Moving the balance and the fader has no effect. It's just dead quiet.

I believe it is something internal(duh).

Has anyone else experienced this?

One more question.

I was looking at used radios on ebay and wonder how you get past the theft lock security?

This happened to me on my 2004 once. Radio was on, everything worked on the display, but no sound. I looked in my owners manual, found all the fuses for the radio, and just pulled them to check them but they were all good. But then the radio sound came back on. I think one of them was just loose or something?

 

Didn't really make sense to me, but I had the same issues and it might be worth trying.

 

(Thinking mine had something to do with the power going to the amp, but not completely sure and not sure about the audio setup on a 99 either)

My '04 has done that once. Turned it off and on several times, checked the mute and volume... nothing. I was close to home when it happened and had things to do so I couldn't check it then. Next time I got in it worked fine and has since.

You might chech the plugs at the rear of the unit, the signal out plug may have come loose.
