how to mute without a mute button

I've got an 01 silverado, so my stereo doesn't have a mute button. But I do have Onstar, and it manages to mute the stereo, so how can I get my cell phone handsfree kit to work the same way? I understand that onstar shares the AUX input with my detached cassette player, so would that be the right place to target for splicing in?

I have an 03 which I installed a handfree kit in. There is a wire in the harness that when it senses a ground it mutes the radio. Sounds like this is what you are looking for.?

I dont know which wire it would be in the 01, but I can walk you through what I did.

I ended up getting a relay and wiring it so that when it senses a ground, as provided by the Motorola kit when a call comes in, it breaks the keyed power to the stereo. The only problem is that the clock goes out too.

I tried to splice directly into the front right speaker feed so that the Motorola kit would broadcast over that while the stereo was off, but it didn't work at all. It overpowered the speaker at even the lowest volume settings. Maybe there's an amp somewhere I'm not aware of? Or would an impedence mismatch do that? Or ____?

Anyone ever take advantage of bluetooth capabilities in aftermarket radios? I recently got a Sprint 960 and I think my Premier 740 has bluetooth.

EDIT. My radio isn't blueetooth
