I just traded off a '94 Cheyenne V-6 auto that consistantly got me 20 to 21 mpg. I now have a 2000 Silveado 5.3 liter V-8 auto with 3.43 gears, that has for the last two tanks given me 20 and 21 mpg. Has anyone else got this type mileage with a V-8? Just curious.

thats what the window sticker recomends the vehicle gets on freeway...

at least on the 2005-2006's that i've seen here at the lot.

currently the v6's and the 4.8 v8's both get the same fuel ecconomy and the 5.3's get 1mpg less on the freeway... but... if your accual results are based on your driving style

My Dad gets a consitent 21 from his 01 GMC 5.3. I am averaging 18.5 on a '02 Yukon XL with a 5.3L and4.10 gears. Most of this driving is short highway trips (15 to 20 Miles) and around town.

Tire presure and a feather foot make all the difference. i alos have a True Flow Cold Air Intake system that looks like is helping me around 1 MPG.

Is the True Flow Cold Air Intake system simular to the K&N system? I've been reading about those, too.

I thought I had really graduated to something when I got out of a "little" Nissan reg. cab 4 cyl. that got 22 mpg. and into the '94 Chevy V-6. Now I am in a big cab, Silverado with a V-8 and get basicly the same mileage. Sure do like the Vortec engine.

I am guessing your trucks are 2 wheel drive. I can get 18 on mine doing anywhere from 60 to 70 mph.

Last week I drove my 01 Suburban down to New Orleans(about 350 miles). I got right at 18 miles per gallon. Had the cruise control set between 70 and 75 the whole time. On the way back, I was towing a car on a trailer and I got 12 miles per gallon. I didnt go over 65 while towing. I noticed during everyday city driving to work, stores, etc, I get between 12- 15 miles per gallon.

My 2006 Silverado 4.8L V8 gets between 18-22MPG depending if I'm driving mostly around town, stop and go traffic and a lot of startups or the highway. I can easily pull about 420~ miles give or take a few if it's mostly highway driving.

Of course, I also have a 5 speed manual transmission, too.

I am getting about 22-24mpg on the highway. Is this normal? The gas milage was supposed to be a good selling point.

Sounds about right especially with the 3.73 gears. They'll cause your rpm's to ride higher and in turn suck more gas because of it. That's about 5 more mpg than a typical 6 or small 8 cylinder.

I'm about to trade-in my 4.8L for a 5.3L extended cab, 4x4, manual tranny. What kinda real-life mpg are you guys getting with the 4x4 5.3L (manual if possible)

I m gettiin about 21 - 23 overall on my avalanche. I get about 780 - 810 kms to a tank of fuel on about 105 -107 litres... Its an 04, 5.3, 4x4 with 70k on it, i m curious to see what i start getting when i switch to synthetic inthe motor, diffs, etc..

I dont care how bad low 20's are cause i was lucky to get 15 - 16 mpg out of my Hemi, and i had to drive like a saint to get it, the av i dont drive like a pansy and still get better than respectable numbers!

That's about what I get on my 2002 YukonXL with 5.3l.

Around 780-810kms on 100 litres of fuel. That's if I keep it around 110kph.

The sticker is a hoak in that the EPA highway cycle has a average speed of 48 MPH and never exceeds 59 MPH and they use hand build cars (detriot tests them themselves) and 93 octane fuel for tests. If you can get a "honest" 20 MPG or so average over a ful tank refill, consider yourself lucky, not in the norm. A few gallon top off is not a accurate test.
