2007 Suburban/Tahoe Bumpers--What is up?

I am a loyal Chevy Suburban owner for many years and I have been looking forward to the new 2007 model for sometime. However, as much as I like many of the improvements (Interior, engine, suspension), I cannot stand the new molded bumpers, front and rear.

While I realize that this seems trendy, I must feel that it takes away from the folks like myself who actually take their trucks off of the pavement and into the field. I cannot imagine taking the 07 suburban out through a cornfield for a dove hunt, because I am afraid that the lack of clearance on the front bumper will get beat up and have something ripped off. I have never had that happen or thought of it with my 99 or 2003 suburbans. Am I the only person who has these thoughts?

I am waiting to see if the Z71 package on the 07 is better at this issue, any ideas? There just appears to be a loss of clearance on the bottom of the bumper from the flood lights to the ground. With the bumper appearing to be one molded piece, including the grill area and from wheel well to wheel well. This is the case on both bumpers, front and rear.

Will there be any replacement options from Ranch Hand or any other manufacturers? Will GM realize that they are isolating previous owners of Suburbans and Yukons who like to use there trucks for something other than dropping the kids off at soccer practice?

I suspect the reduced clearance is because of some government bumper spec that becomes mandatory in 2009 or 2010. So they lumped it in with the redesign.

This is the first of probably a long list of GMT900 "improvements" that won't be appreciated, once they're discovered.

There'll probably even come a time when people will seek out good used GMT800's (over the GMT900's) because they're not as F**d up.
