Getting an '06 Duramax this Tuesday (05/30)

Folks,

I'm picking up my truck this coming Tuesday. It's my first diesel and would like to know how to break in the motor/tranny/rear end properly?

Thanks for the help.

Just drive with a light foot for first 500 miles and don't tow for at least the first 500 miles. You need to change rear end fluid after the first 500 miles of towing (heavy). You should also change the fuel filter and tranny spin on filter at about 5000 miles (this is sooner than recommended) You will love the power. I just returned from a 5500 mile vacation. I got between 19.5 & 22 mpg (just truck & 2 people).

I would change the engine oil within the first 1500 miles or so..same for the spin-on.

Its not neccessary, but I change my engine oil and the tranny spin on every 6500 miles or so. GM says 10k IIRC for the engine oil, but it wont hurt it hcanging it more often...especially the Allison spin-on. Make sure you go to an Allison dealer tho. GM dealer=25 dollars for a spin on. Allison dealer=7 dollars for a spin-on. Dont forget the magnet on the spin-on filter.

you'll be very happy with the truck..it will be fast too!!!! LBZ crew cabs run low low 15's bone stock at the track!!

Hi all,

Glad i stopped in on this post, i have been trying to determine when to do all this. I haul boats for a living, and this is my first diesel, so i should change the oil and filter at say 7k, even if the oil life meter says i still have some left? And do the fuel and tranny spin on also?

Do i need to add any tranny fluid when you change the filter? I'm trying to set up a truck checklist. I have 600 on it now, and haven't dared to get on it hard. Very impressive engine.
