emergency brake stuck, no clue how to fix

I've got a 97 D***e Caravan thats been a problem since day one. I parked it for a week with the e-brake on and now it's stuck on. The cables are loose so it's stuck inside the drum. I can't get the drum off of course so does anyone know any way to fix it? There are three access holes in the back of the hub but I can't see much in there. Any help is appreciated.

Uhhhh, you might want to try a chrysler product forum. Not sure why you'd expect us GM guys to know anything about one of those.

you're right, I got it in the wrong topic, sorry

Push it off a cliff.

definately a good call there

Or, you know...Get an adjuster and back it out.

whats this adjuster thing you're talking about kind sir?

Something like this.

It will slide into a small oblong hole in the back of the drum (sometimes filled with a rubber plug). A screwdriver can be used on some vehicles, but there's usually crap in the way, and you can't get a decent angle without the tool.

There's a geared wheel in there that you pry against, and turn...This will adjust your brakes in/out.

I'm not sure that this would work though - As I don't know how the drums are set up on that particular car...If it were me, my first brainchild idea would be to have somebody pull the cable release and hold it, while you beat on the drum with a hammer to break it loose.

Not yet, I'll try the adjuster first. I live in Maine so the drum is pretty rusty and if I beat on it it may crumble. After I fix it I'll loan it to my mother-in-law for a week or so to be sure I did it right, safety first you know.

I would try breaking it loose first, such as pounding on the drum with a mallet, rocking the car using motor and transmission. Anything that will force that drum againt the shoes, they might be rusted together, breaking it loose will fix it...

You said it was a dodge, right? A little bit of dynamite or C-4 will take care of that no problem. Best way to fix a dodge is to blow it up.

I couldn't agree more, but it was given to me so the price was right.

Even better. You didn't pay for it so it would be like blowing up your neighbors dodge.
