ARRGGH! Think I screwed the pooch

Well, to make a long story short, I am changing the backing plates on my 2000 Silverado Z71 4x4 ext cab. I got the drivers side axle out, changed the seal, painted everything, repacked the parking brake mechanism with lube, and put new parking brake shoes on. When I put the axle back in, I seated the C-clip and was under the rear diff to start the left side when my 4 yr old son grabbed the axle and turned it, which coughed out the lower gear in the diff. I tried to push it back it but it won't go, and I didn't monkey with it too much, cause I figured I'd ask the forum how to do it, and am I totally screwed??

Good luck with that, but you might not want to post a topic heading such as that with all the dogs running about these days :D
