In some ways it's like the pushrod vs overhead cam debate. It's not just the design, it's the execution as well. If GM does it right (like the pushrod LS7 in the Corvette Z06) I'm not too concerned about the particular technology used.

I know that a lot of people have been unhappy with the first try at rear disc brakes but I have had no issues, no soft pedal no premature replacement, My truck has a little over 100K and the brakes (origional) are only half worn out (all 4 corners). I'm glad they are going back to them.

I must be an oddball. My 2005 1500HD CC QS has rear disc brakes and I love them! My buddies 06 has drums and I much prefer mine to his.

P.S. My 05 has 33,000 miles on it and I have had NO problems with the brakes what so ever.

It is not an HD, I believe it is a 06 or 07. He just got it.

It looks like some '07 trucks will have rear disks and some are still available with drums in the rear. I just ordered a GMC GMT-900 Z71 with the 5.3L and it comes with the drums. The optional 6.0L has the disks.

Mine discs have been fine as well............no complainrs so far and my rig has 270K kms in it......

I hate the rear drums on my new 06.. I'll definitely will be trying to trade it in on the 07/08's if they have rear discs and diesel in the 1500

I know for a fact my '95 will stop ALOT faster than my fiancee`'s '99 Jimmy w/4-wheel discs...and honestly, I can change rear drums faster than I can change rear discs...when I did them on that Jimmy the rotors were so stuck it took me 2 hours PER SIDE of beating on them with a 3 lb sledge.
