Too much $$$ for a '95?

Hey everyone.

Today I went and tried to work a deal to get this immaculent 1995 K1500 Silverado 5.7 Ext. cab. The interior was in excellent shape, looked as if it were new. The truck had 89K miles on it, and has the 5sp. M/T which made its appeal greater for me. It was in top shape, I was very impressed.

So anyways, at the moment i'm driving a 2000 Subaru Legacy GT with 94K miles on it. The dealer was wanting $9,991 for the truck. Ok, retail Kelly Blue Book on the truck is $8,485. Retail on my car is $11,395. After working with the dealer as much as I could, the final outcome was them wanting to give me $7,000 for my car and pay $2,000 for the truck. I was looking at coming out of this at an even trade or maybe getting some boot?!

Was this a good deal? I thought not, and left after that. I love these trucks, my grandparents and uncle both have one, but that price was a little rediculous! So I was just wondering what you guys thought of this situation, if that was even a decent deal. Thanks!

That seems high to me, especially with some of the incentives they currently have on new trucks.

I think it's too high. I got my 2000 ECSB Silverado with the 5.3 and a 4.10 rear end with a painted to match hard tonneau cover for 11,800. It was a 9.5 out of 10 as far as condition, and had 92k miles on it.

Since this truck your looking at is a manual, consider having to change the clutch in the future. It's definately NOT fun. I had to do it 4 times on my 1988 K1500. Although I did get it down to about an 8 hour job, it still really bites.

I'd surf ebay and autotrader.com and check out prices. I think you'll be able to find a better deal IMO.

If you do decide to go with this truck though, try and check out the intake manifold gasket, u-joints, front end (ball joints, shocks, hub bearings, tie rods etc.), and fuel pump (some of them can be quite noisy) and try and get them down on price. Let us know how you do!

I'd want it to be an even trade, and have them throw some s**t it. Go to kellybluebook.com or whatever, do that for your car, print it out and take it in. Say you want atleast, 10,900 for it, and something else (Ex. Free oil changes, etc) or maybe some kind of warrenty (1 year dealer or something)...

And hell, for 10k you can get a 01'!

Well the used car salesman told me that they had replaced the entire clutch assembly when they recieved the truck. He told me it cost around $1100 for that. Basically what he was saying was, they put alot of money into the clutch and they want to get that money back out of it. About the Kelly Blue Book pricing, I did actually take the print offs of the Trade In AND Retail value of both my car and the truck, showed the guy, and he said that they don't like to follow KBB. So he checks the NADA value for it, and the difference for that was around $1000. I personally like to follow the Kelly pricing because it accounts vehicle condition and options alot better than the NADA value. I went in there with the intentions of settling no less than trading my car and receiving $1000 boot. Too bad it didn't work like that, I really really liked that truck. If it sits there for a good time, which i'm sure it will with that price, I might go back and see what they say again. I don't want something I'll have to pay on, because I don't have the money at the moment and the family told me the Subaru was my last vehicle for a while haha. But i'm going to keep looking around, hopefully one will turn up for me.

$8500 is way too high for a 95, you should be down around $6000 or less. Heck my 99 with 104,000 miles on it isn't worth $9000 now.

Here's a link to the truck I looked at if anybody is interested in seeing what i'm talking about.

It's funny tho, because on the site the price is $9775, and the sticker price on the truck was $9991. I said something about this difference and all the salesman could say was "Yeah I guess they raised the price". This car lot doesn't do much business anyways, all of their vehicles are way overpriced. I guess that's why they want so much, so if they sell 1 vehicle they actually make enough to pay the bills.
