Adding basic keyless entry

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

My truck has factory power locks but no power windows, so I'm looking for a cheap aftermarket keyless entry kit (hopefully with a decent quality key fob). Don't want remote start or anything fancy, just something that'll unlock the doors for me. Can't be hard to do, one time when I was poking around for a power source, I unlocked the doors by grounding one wire on one of the connectors in the fuse box by the drivers door.

Let me know if you have any recommendations, thought I might just see what they have at Autozone tommorow.

Thanks,

Tom

Did you buy your truck new?

Yes. Locks were around $150. Windows and keyless + locks was over $800! (Dealer ordered it for me just the way I wanted it)

Gotcha, just wanted to make sure you didn't get it used and just didn't get remotes with it.

Simplest way would be to add factory keyless entry.

All you would need to do is buy a passenger side switch module (also known as PDM, or Passenger Door Module) with the keyless entry stuff in it. Plug it right in and program some factory remotes to work. Real easy.

I know that works great on trucks that have both power windows and locks. It should work on yours too unless there's something really different about how locks work on the ones with crank windows.

I looked up the guy that the other guys got their window modules from on e-bay, they say specifically that it will not work on trucks that just have power door locks. Aside from that, my door panels only have space for the one switch =).

I got a keyless entry/remote starter for $50 at Sears, works great, haven't hooked up the remote starter, had to hack up one of the relays to get my parking lights working witih the remote lock/unlock.

I LOVE IT!
