I have a 1997 GMC Suburban. During right turns, the steering wheel "gives" and the wheel turns another 1-2" suddenly. ???

Sounds like a bad steering position sensor. These act up on turns and give you sudden full power steering assist which makes it feel like the steering let go for an instant.

Dad's '99 Yukon had same problem. Steering wheel would kind of "float" for a couple degrees when turning right, then seem to catch (hard). I can't recall exactly what it was, some kind of bearing within the steering.

I hated driving the thing when it was like that. Especially on ice. On highway curves.

I second this motion.
