removing front diff case

I have a 00 GMC 2500 NBS 4x4. It has the 9.25 front axle. I did a search and didn't find any info on how to drop the front case. I know the cv shafts and drive shaft need to be unbolted, then what? Anyone do this before?

I haven't done it, but I would imagine that once the CV's and driveshaft are off, the only other thing would be any wiring harness. Then, if memory serves, its held in by four bolts?

 

Also would need to pull the skid plates, if your truck has them.

 

I can't think of anything else that would be attached to the front axle. The only possible problem would be if some other assembly (or part of the engine) is in the way of dropping the axle out.

I did this a while back when I installed an Eaton E-locker. The job is pretty staright foreward, remove the skid plate, both axles, drive shaft, (I marked each flange before un bolting so they go back together correctly) electricle connector, and the three or four bolts holding it to the frame and cross members. I also had to disconnect the steering linkage from the front cross member on the passenger side. It is a very tight squeez, it will need to be rotated in just the right way to get it to clear all the brackets and steering rods. Good luck
