6.5 diesel starter troubles...

hey, has anyone ever had any trouble with starters and flywheels on any of the 6.5 liter automatic pickups with the starter not wanting to properly line up? the flywheel had to be changed, and now the starter won't disengage when it is turning. the spline won't pop back out of the way from the flywheel. it seems like the spline on the starter is binding on the flywheel... we have it torn apart, so ANY imput would be great!! thanks so much!

this has been an ongoing problem. when he bought the truck, it only had one starter bolt in, then that one bolt broke. since the one bolt broke, it hasn't been the same since. ac delco starter came off, and a duralast starter went on...

did ya take the starter out and bench test it to see if the starter gear stays out after engagement.

IE solenoid pulls in and stay s in.

it either works right or it doesn't, that solenoid is nuthing but a large electro magnet.

maybe its the wrong flywheel? doubtful but ya never know, ya know?

we'll have to bench check it.the flywheel is the right one. it took a couple tries to get the right one, but it's the right one. i'll see about testing it, and post up the results. thanks!!
