Have been running a K&N for about 2 years on my '03 suburban 5.3 and no problem. My battery went dead and after getting a jump, Check engine light is on with a reduced engine power. Checked the codes and it had thrown 2 P1516 codes. Let it sit for a while, it starts fine, and even runs good now but the light is still on as I did not eraswe the codes. Any suggestions? Trying to get on the road tomorrow to head back home to Florida about 1300 miles. Don't want to get stuck.

P1516 can be set by a low voltage condition, which you obviously had. You'll probably have no more problems unless the battery goes low/dead again.

One thing to add real quick, the battery and starter and charging system were tested at the same stop at advance, it showed everything OK, but the batterys voltage was a little below its normal point, but nothing worth replacing yet!

I know this post is super old, but the other day i went to start my car (which is NOT a truck) I started it and it ran like it had shakes and the whole engine was convulsing, got the "reduced engine power" screen came up on the DIC (Driver Information Center) which also triggered the check engine light. I barely was able to reverse to the parking lot, where i let the car sit.

After 5 minutes or so i restarted the car and it drove like a top (strange!) and i drove it to a advance where i got the code P1516 from the OBD2 scan, i left this light on as a reminder to check this out.

Is my car dying or is this just a glitch?

Thanks in advance!

Thanks GM-Tech. Now I can tell the wife it was just the battery.
