Just bought a Chevy

Well up until about 2 days ago I drove a 1988 f150, It was a 2wd 4 speed with a 300 I6 with a comp cam and hooker headers (pretty torquey motor). Well I just got back from training (Im in the Army reserves) and thought I'd buy a new truck. I looked around for Fords Chevys and Dodges, cause Im not a fan of Imports, cars or trucks. I almost bought a 05 Dodge Rumble Bee up until I got an insurence quote from the insurence lady. Then I found a 2003 Silverado 1500, reg cab Step Side, its "victory red", has a 5.3l backed by an auto. Its a pretty nice truck, pretty quick compared to the old Ford Im used to. Completely loaded too. I can mess with the radio on the steering wheel and everything. Chick Magnet too. Since I lack a digital camera I'll try to upload a pic of it while it was at the dealer.

One thing I was wondering was what the rear end gear ratio is. On the Ford I had a door sticker with codes, which could easily be decoded online, but the chevy's door sticker only has tire pressure ratings, and the Owner's manual is for soccer moms with out cell phones when they get a flat tire, so Im kinda outta luck. There's no tag on the differentual either. Only info I can give is that it turns around 2,000 rpms @ 65 on the highway with cruise on. In the manual I discovered the only rear end options for this truck was 3.42's and 3.73's. I figured it would do lower than 2,000 rpms on the high way in O/D with 3.42's, but Im not sure. Any help would be appreciated.

Im going to get some 40 series flowmaster's tommorrow at the exhaust shop, probobly single in dual out, it'll have a nice rumble. I read on here the Z/71's are running lower 16's, I figured a small truck like this with 2wd and a 5.3l would do a little better, still good enough to pass up the stock ricers who think their coffee can free's up 40 horses.

glad to be with you guys!

Pretty sure in 03 you needed the tow package for the 3.73 gears, at least that's how it was when I pruchased my 03 reg cab. But that was a 4X4....could be different.

Glove box, I'll check it out. Im not much of a Chevy guy unlike my brother, well until now. It's probobly got 3.73's, since it came with a hitch and tow/hual mode.

Thanks for the info.

My 04 Stepside is a 3.42 and believe yours is too. 2000 RPm @ 70 MPH is about right.

That thing will rock with a good intake

I know what I bought and it's a 3.42......

Let me rephrase that, "Approximately 2000 RPM's"

It's got the tow package if that helps. The glove box had 5,000 numbers on the sticker.

Got a 40 series Flowmaster, single in dual out put on today, sounds great.

Here's a link to what all those codes mean.
