I drive a 95 GMC 3500 Turbo Diesel at my job, i tow a lg heavy trailer at all times. The truck is having a hard time staying cool towing the load.

The truck is not overloaded but just undercooled. Are there any aftermarket radiators out there i can look at. i have been looking everywhere and have come up empty.

Thanks all.

if your rad is original it would probably help to have it flushed and rodded out. also check your fan clutch. if you dont have one you could add the auxillary electric pusher fan in front of the rad also, my 97 k3500 with the 454 came with it.

Has it always run hot or has it been creeping upward as it gets older? How heavy is the trailer, and what kind of terrain (hills or flat)?

the truck has always run hot when towing the trailer. i have put 90k on the truck with the trailer behind it. the motors at 189k miles. in 3 years.

I'm just looking for more cooling and maybe adding more power for towing.

the truck and trailer combinde weigh 17k lbs. the trailer and load are abaout 11k

It might be sufficient to just get the radiator cleaned. After 10 years, I bet some of it's flow capacity is blocked. Maybe that's all you need.

It would likely help your cooling more to upgrade to the 97+ water pump and dual thermostat inlet/crossover pipe.

In 97 GM addressed the overheating under load problem of the 6.5 TD. They kept the same radiator but added a larger GPM pump and a dual thermostat set-up.

I think they sell the parts needed to upgrade pre-97s on dieselpage.com
