metal shavings in engine oil

Recommended Posts

Posted

After changing the oil on my 2500HD that has 80,000 miles on it I had a some metal shavings in the bottom of the pan I drained the oil into. I had the same issue 2,800 miles ago when I changed the oil too. What should I be looking into or doing? Or is this normal? Its a 6.0L

how is the oil pressure at idle, and cruise? How large are the shavings? How much was it? I dont know if there is ever a time when metal shavings are "okay".

The shavings covered the bottom of the pan I drained the oil into in a scattered spread out pattern. If I run my finger all the way across the bottom of the pan I will get about 10 shavings that stick on my finger. The size of the shavings varries. On average it is about the size of a gain of sugar, sometimes a little bigger.
