Fumoto Engine oil drain valve

 I just bought a new 2006 K1500 4WD Silverado with the 4.8 ltr. When I change my oil for the first time at 3K, I will install this new drain valve as it will keep me from making a mess every time I change. I notice the small oil filter is right next to the drain valve and actually looks like it might be easy to grip and get out of there. (I'm sure they fired the engineer who designed it by now!!) At any rate, has anyone else bought/tried this new valve? I had to buy a small extender, as the oil plug on this particular engine is recessed about 1/2 inch or so, so I first put in the extender, then screw on the valve. It wasn't real cheap, but the quality looks great and I see no way it could leak. The website is:

www.fumotovalve.com and they are in Washington state. Check them out and let me know what you guys think. My old 2500HD with the 8.1/Allison had the crossframe built a couple of inches right in front of the drain valve, so every time you pull out the plug, it hit the frame and splattered. I noticed that this engine has nothing in front of it, (again, someone had to lose their job over this), and that the oil should shoot right out. All I do is hook my little 12" rubber hose over the nipple and the oil will drain where I want it to drain. This should be interesting!!

Over YOUR nipple? You sure you bought this for your truck and not you? LOL. I was wondering about these "drain plug extender" systems myself. I had the Z71 offroad package on my last truck which was a 99, and I remember changing the oil, and it would just pour on top of the skid plate. I thought about notching out a section to allow the oil to drain down into the pan where it was supposed to go, but then I started using the cardboard container the filter came in and folded it like a "V" and it seemed to do pretty good. Haven't really checked into since I got rid of that truck though.

Only problem with leaving the OEM drain plug out is that the plug has a magnet on the end and your new valve dosent. Since you have to get nder the truck and change filter & grease front end, the cardboard like firefighteremt3100 uses works fine and doesnt cost anything.

BTW the oil pan & entire engine is sitting at an angle and the front is higher than the rear. If the drain was in the front there would be some oil left in the pan afterwards.

we used to use those on our cranes, bulldozers etc that were hard to get to the plugs i dont know if id do it on my brand new truck though i remember a couple times the valve would get stepped on or something thrown on it and would either open it up(no safety valve like those, which was pretty slick btw)or start leaking nice to have the magnet too i just use a piece of cardboard piece of angleiron if i have it laying around man those valves sure did make an oil change sooo easy though

About the oil filter -

I just wish there was a way to drain the filter before spinning it off! It makes a real mess and is not fun when the engine is hot!

About the adapter -

The nice thing about that is, you dont have to worry about stripping the threads taking the OEM drain plug in and out.
