Wimpy horn

The stock low-note horn on my Silverado sounds wimpy.

Does anyone have the optional 7Z1 high-note horn factory installed? Or has anyone installed one themselves? I believe it was only available on fleet orders.

These trucks need a much better horn...

Well you have 2 horns in your truck. One's a high pitch and the other is a low pitch. My low pitch horn went out about 6 months ago, and now my truck sounds like a little car. I'm just to lazy to replace the low pitch one.

Do you know if the optional 7Z1 horn replaces the standard horn(s)?

Id bet one of your horns is out. I think they all go on the passenger side. Mine sounded wimpy when the one side went out too. Ive heard of other having this problem too. The horns are just behind the bumper and in front of each front wheel. Look up from the bottom to see them best. Set your horn off and figure out which side isnt working. A lot of times a good smack to the horn will get it working again. Hit it as the horns are going off....use your red panic button on the remote, and smack the horn.

Z71's have an optional horn, compared to the rest of the trucks?

Mine went on P/S. 01 rado, was good till 05....one good long honk at some cows on a return trip from hunting.....anywhoo..

I went to Pep Boys and bought thier FIAMM extra loud, or heavy duty and found it is the same part. Swapped the gm plug on it and I am back in action.

What part number FIAMM horn did you get? Did you have to splice or cut any wires? I picked up the FIAMM AM80S, but the OEM horn's weather pack connector (the one attached to the horn) isn't of the same shape or orientation as the Pep Boy's FIAMM horn I picked up. Can you provide more insight on your setup?

Thanks

I am in Sunny Mexico now...on business(arghhh!).

I will see if I can find anything on it when I get home this weekend.

The one I bought did not have the connector, but the stock connector bolted right on...so you may have to find another model number.

I think it was a extra loud (E), but not sure of model number.

There are some aftermarket air horns that come with a compressor...it would be awesome to have a truck sound like a train if it wouldn't vibrate my front end apart.
