Maybe this has been asked and answered before but when im at an idle, i hear rattlings and tinks kinda like (forgive the example) rocks being tapped together, im wandering if it is a roller or a lifter prob, i just had the oil changed and it did it before that its an 01 with 45k on it, any suggestions would be useful. thanks.

Sounds like the infamous piston slap issue. :( Not a problem, just annoying...mine does the same thing. Not a whole lot you can do about it, like I said it's not a problem that needs tending to, it's just annoying.

Tim, some people may get tired of hearing me carry on about Risone. However, if it is lifter tap and it is due to a weak lifter or sludge, a qt of Rislone to replace one qt of oil at your next change will likely cure your problem. If it is piston slap, it will do nothing to help you. If you have a lifter that is bad, it will also not help.

Rislone is not a overhaul in a bottle but if it is a lifter issue as I mentioned and it does not fix it, you can get your wrenches out.

Also, you may not have to use it again for quite some time and if it does fix it, you need to consider you maint schedule or your brand of oil, because it is likely not getting the job done.

i will try the rison, but i use the lucas oil treatment crap, is there a difference? and how do you feel about the lucas products?

Tim, Lucas and Rislone are completely too different products. We sell a ton of Lucas Oil Treatment. I mean we sell enough in a year to float a battle ship. It certainly has a use but IMO, it is best suited for very high mileage engines that are well worn. I am sure it does many things but it appears to be basicaly a viscosity enhancer. The folks at Lucas would disagree obviously. I do not add anything to my oil. I would not even recommend addind Rislone in every change but only when and if you need it. It is my opinion that oil is a "engineered " product and adding chems to it is like mixing chems at home to clean your shower. You can create a real "chemical mess" that will do more harm than good.

However, I do use Lucas Fuel Treatment (upper cyl lube and injector cleaner) with every fill up in every gasoline engine I own. I use it at a rate of 3 ozs per 10 gals and it helps my mileage plus adds lube to my upper cyl and helps keep the combustion chamber and injectors clean.
