hello i have a 2001 gmc 2500hd with the 6.0 gas enginewith 63000 miles what are some things i should know about this wounderful truck. and what to watch out for or upgrade i was reading about the bigger oil filter not to sure what i need to get but ill keep reading. anything to be aware of when towing?? anything else would be appreciated thanx.

I'm not being a wiseass, but if you've got an owner's manual read it. It answers most questions you might have. Then, anything you still aren't sure of come and ask us.

 

If you've got the towing package on the truck you should just add a brake controller for the electric brakes on the trailer, if it has them. I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy controller, and to make wiring it easy, buy the harness. You should have a pigtail in the glovebox that you would wire to the pigtail that comes with the controller, but they have a harness that replaces both pigtails and eliminates the splices you would have to make. It's much neater. You will also need to add a 10A fuse (IIRC) into the fusebox under the hood. This fuse is taped to the pigtail. All this assumes the previous owner got the towing package, never installed the pigtail and fuse, and left them in the glovebox.

well to start i dont have a manual or any harnes so i preety much out of luck i would assume i have a towing package cause he had a 5th wheel on it before not sure iam gunna run the vin to find out thanxs
