Greased slip yoke today...

Well, finally broke down and did it. Not even a spot of grease in there after a little under 3 years and 47k.

Shifts 4597359086789456958 times better. All clunking except 2-3 upshift is gone.

Can't wait to back it down my girlfriends driveway.. its been making a horrible creak going backwards over a bump while backing down a 15 degreeish incline. Hoping this fixed it. If not, looks like its gonna be time for the suspension shackles to come off and get cleaned up.

Also cleaned up my Tahoe wheels, anyone wanna sell me two more?

In my experience, creaking sometimes indicates a dry U-joint. If itis a U-joint that's creaking you should be able to grab it and make it move perpendicular to the driveshaft line.

Yea, my father had a creaking and he had a semi-seized u-joint.

Well, it only makes that creaking noise going over that particular bump while in reverse going downhill. Crossing my fingers that this will have fixed it! Didn't particularly inspect the u-joints while I had the driveshaft off, but I didn't notice anything.

What kind of grease are you supposed to put on the slip yoke? I have been thinking about doing the same thing.

Same stuff you put on the front end. Generic lithium grease meeting LB or GC-LB standards. There's a GM part number in the owner's manual. I keep M1 for greasing the front end, used that.

Probably the same thing as the other greases, only its a different color so they can charge 150% of the price of the other stuff

I saw that in my owners manual also. I actually have a 2wd Auto. However, it just seems to me that that special lubricant would probably be better in every yoke/spline situation.
