steering column noise

Hi guys new to the forum, looking for some info or help. I have a 06 2500 hd that has a noise and vibration that you can feel through the steering wheel when going over lite bumps. I replaced the intermediate shaft with the borgeson unit and it made it much better but its still there. Checked the front end and shocks sway bar links etc. all still brand new. Any ideas? thanks J.

Not sure if this will help but my brand new '86 had a steering knuckle that was installed into a tapered socket, with a castle nut and cotter pin, and there were at least 6 turns between where the nut was installed, and where it ended up after I removed the cotter pin and finished tightening it. It had quite a bit of play in it--about 1/4 inch--in its tapered socket before I fixed it.

Look for defective suspension and steering components, and components which are only partially screwed or bolted on. Jack up your truck, install safety stands, and then pull and yank on stuff and see what turns up. Or pay a mechanic to do that.

I assume you hear a ticking noise. The noise is common on engines with a few thousand miles or less and also soon after changing the oil on some engines that has higher mileage [10,000+]

Sounds like this is the intermediate steering shaft concern. I have it too and it seems to be getting worse. Does anyone actually knw what the shaft is doing to cause this knocking?

I have the exact same thing going on right now on my 04 2500HD. I recall reading in this forum about 8 months ago or so that this is a common problem on these trucks. Still it is driving me crazy and I am making an appintment to get it looked at. It didn't do this for the first 17,000 miles, but in the last 3,000 it has really become apparent. I can't recall the title of the post from before but there were a number of comments on this subject.

Let me know what you find out . . . I'll do the same.

HI,

try it once again. Ia slo have this problem with the steering column in my 04 2500HD Sierra. As I am in Germany (car is not sold nor supported in Europe at all, there is no dealer to visit!), I need to contact GM but it is impossible via their website. So does anybody know an email adress of GM's customer service in the US?

Best and thanks in advance, would really help me...

Mike
