4.3 Engine Swap

I currently have an 01' Silverado with a 4.3L. What are some crate engine options that can be smog legal? Or should I just do a direct swap with a 5.8 or 6.0?

 

I'm considering a few GM Performance engines and others. I need the extra power to pull my race bike & car trailer.

 

Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

You would need a new tranny if you stepped up to anything bigger than a 5.3. I don't think a 6 would bolt up, and in any case you would probably need a new PCM, headers, possibly intake.. It just sounds like a big headache to me.

I'd go with the 5.3...nice and big, lotsa horsepower...lotsa torque...nice engine.
