Rough idle... FIXED!

Howdy people,

I always think it's a good idea to post fixes to problems for other people's searching pleasure. So when I finally fixed my rough idle, I knew where to come to toot my own horn.

My 01 K2500 has had a rough idle for as long as I can remember... and at 120,000 miles, it's gotten pretty annoying too. I've replaced injectors, plugs, wires, and many, many other parts totaling a ton of $$.

I was going thru the unbolting and testing of my IAC and TPS, but during a start-up test I thought I heard a faint air-sucking sound. I started running my fingers around different places and found that the EGR valve gasket mating area was sucking air! I couldn't believe it! When I unbolted the EGR valve, the gasket was completely deteriorated. So I cut a new one from some extra gasket material I had.

This discovery couldn't come at a better time since I was "this close" to doing my intake manifold gaskets this weekend thinking THAT was the issue! Afterall, I literally checked everything else I could check.

So if anyone is having a rough idle on the 2001 Vortec 6.0L style engines, check your EGR system. I know there are many other areas that can cause rough idle but this system was one I just didn't think about.

Good luck!

Man, that is a nice looking truck. Those Hummer wheels make all the difference. I really do not like factory2500 series wheels. They are too narrow for a truck this size.

Thanks man! And what's really nice is you can easily find guys who're swapping out their new H2 tires/wheels for some 24" BlingBling and get the entire set for $600.

I'll be needing new tires before winter (at least the rear tires!!) and I've already seen take-offs for $150 each including the wheel.

Thanks for posting your FIX. Great job

Too few folks post what their fix was here. I wish more would.
