there is also a battery tray in the engine compartment. is there a kit to add a second battery and if so do you know the kit number. :ughdance:

Not sure why you want more CCA but you can certainly buy a battery rated at more CCA. I would caution you of this though. To get more CCA there are two things that a bat co. can do. More lead or a higher specific gravity level of acid. Typically a higher CCA battery will not last as long. The hotter acid eats the lead faster generating the CCA but it will not last as long.

There are several good quality batteries on the market but the best IMO is a battery offererd by East Penn Mfg. They sell through their own name "Deka" or most CARQUEST Auto Parts stores sell them. Their premium battery is an Advanced Generation battery containg a silver alloy and calcium technology. It is designed for Fleet, Police and Taxi use.

You can certainly add another battery if you have the room. There are battery isolators avail and I am not sure but I believe you would need one to connect between the batteries to make sure they both charge properly.

Again, be careful buying a battery on CCA only, you would likely be dissapointed.

I certainly understand why you would want a higher CAA.

For my truck, it came with a 600CCA. Not very useful when it's -35c.

I put in a 1000cca battery in my truck the first winter I had it and that was in 2002. Still going strong.

Guess it boils down to personal preference in the end. ;)

Why would you want to change the battery in a new truck? Its under warrenty for at least 5 years and changing it will cost you money and the battery you paid for will be thrown away.

Its a waste of money until the warrenty has run out.

Did you ever get an answer to the second battery? I'm lookin' for a kit myself for a 2007 Yukon XL

Not sure where you live, but some auto parts retailers sell "Optima" batteries made by Johnson Controls. They typically have a slightly higher CCA rating than stock, but the major advantage is the batteries ability to give the user a better amp-hour rating, which you call a "reserve". They are, however, easily 85-100 dollars depending on who is selling it. Your suburban likely takes a "78" group size series battery. AC-Delco does make a "professional grade" battery that you can find at most auto-parts retailers... but again, cost will be higher.

In the long run, if you needing more amps to power something... you may want to invest in a higher amperage alternator. This will reduce the frequency of abuse on the battery and extend the life of everything.

Good Luck !

i asked the same thing in this thread http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/index.php?...9215&hl=battery after the battery in my wife's yukon xl went dead while she was waiting for my son at a basketball practice.

the 615 cca battery that is oe in our truck seems pretty pathetic for something with so much electronics on board. I had thought about using the front battery tray for a second battery, and i guess i should check with the dealer to see if there is some type of cable kit to make that work. If nothing else, a larger capacity battery would be helpful, but the area available where the stock battery is located is pretty tight.
