Key comes out while running

I noticed by accident one day that I can pull the key out of the ignition with the truck running. It's a 2003 1500HD. I kind of like being able to leave the truck running with the doors locked while I run into a convenience store.

 

Should I be concerned about being able to this?

You got a bad ingnition switch. Probably have a key chain that weighs 10 lb..

Have the switch replaced and loose the weight on the chain.

You have a bad ignition LOCK, not a bad switch. The switch is the electrical part (only) of the assembly. If the "problem" doesn't bother you, I'd say it's not going to cause any additional problems.

You could always coat the key with a good RTV compound, it shouldn't come out then.

I dunno, I don't mind my keys being able to come out of the ignition on my truck. Of course, I can shut my truck back OFF with they key out too, but I can't start it for some reason. Oh well.

I've seen alot of that in the older models. Me and my buddy used to have fun as teenagers swappin' out each others keys and tryin' them in other vehicles....YOU ALL would be surprised how a little jiggle with someone else's keys will open doors and even start a GM.

I had alot of fun hiding my buddy's blazer...LOL!
