just put on 40 series flowmaster

hey guys, I just put on a 40 series flowmaster muffler with 3"in piping. The car sounds awesome outside, but inside it's way too loud. I like the mod but it's way too loud and annoying inside the cabin. I orginally was going to install the 70 series but people tell me it was going to be way too soft and it cost a little more. Oh well I'll just have to live with it.

I wanted to ask you guys what I can do to muffle the sound so I don't hear it inside the cabin as much.

I have dual 40's on my truck,thought it was a little loud at first but damn it sounds good,I love to hear em talk when I mash on it,,,I 'm getting goose bumps just thinking about it..lol...Gun

If it truly bothers you, car stereo speciality places have sound absorbing stuff you can put under your carpet and in your doors which would reduce the resounce in your cab to just about nill cept for the windows. Besides, the 40's sound badass don't they? You want everyone to know your coming don't you? :music:

My brother has headers and 40 series flowmasters on his 77 chevy pickup. It sounds sweet. I'm thinking about putting the same setup on my HD. I just don't know what it would sound like with the cat. converter.

Hey guys just wanted to update you on my muffler replacement. I went back to the muffler shop and had them put in the 70 series muffler.

I like it much better, sounds good but I still get alot of resonance in the cab. (It doesn't sound at all like the examples on the flowmaster website)

I think I'll definately put in sound dampers like dynamat. Does anyone have experience putting them in, and how much will it decrease sound resonance inside the cab? Also the tips I put on are rather large does this affect the sound of the muffler?

I'm pretty sure that the web sight sound is the 50 series muffler.

I have extensive experience with sound deadening materials.

I have used the spray on and the mats. I prefer the mats.

I sprayed a 10 liter container into the interior of a '97 Camaro ( removed everything!). It took almost a week to cure (advertised 1 day). Also, several trim pieces "dryed out" and cracked w/in a week or two of reinstalling the interior.

I have put the matting in a '88 Cherokee, a '94 S10 3-door, a '96 Accord, and a '99 Expedition.

There is an online store, sounddomain.com I think, that has the 10"x10" sheets for a very good price compared to Dynamat.

Do you guys know when the muffler will begin to mellow out its sound.

BTW- the 70 series sounds awesome in my truck I love it.

Hey gun, you have dual 40's...2.5 outs or 3...I have your exact truck with a magnaflow dual 3 in to 2.5 out....it sounds good but is not quite burly enough for my taste...was thinking of switching out to flowmaster 40's or 50's......how is your sound at idle...at 70?
