Reagear with G80...3.73 to a 4.56 4x4 help

hey guys,

I am really just doing this out of curiosity. I am not very knowledgeable when it comes to this subject so i am hoping that you guys can clear things up for me!

Right now i have the 3.73's with the G80 in the back and 4x4. Now i was looking around to go to a 4.56 ratio. well with the 4x4 you have to regear both ends. so i started looking around some more and found these

Well after visiting that site...i was like WOW i can regear my truck for $500 in parts and some more for install...well thats not that bad.

Then i started thinking well does this kit come with a locking rear diff and all the other parts ect. This is where i got lossed.

Could someone please explain to me what that kit is? What i would really need to get in parts to do the gear change and get a similar/same G80 ect. Thanks!

from what i read there is no new carrier included but almost evrything else is, also if you do this i would love to buy your OEM gears off you to offset some of your cost "I only need the rear but i will buy both if necessary."

What the kit will consist of is the ring gear and pinion gear for each axle as well as the master install kit which usually includes the bearings and shims as well as detailed instructions.

What it does not include is the diferential, thats the part with the G80 "locker".

You can reuse your diffs including the G80 in the rear.

The G80 is not a very good "locker" and I use the term "locker" very loosely, mine as well as friends of mine only got around 20K miles before it quit working.

The problem is that in order to add a real locker you would have to change the carrier. Not a problem if you are happy with the G80.

The labor will usually run you a little more than the parts, it's fairly time consuming to set up a rear end. You should be able to get the labor done for around $300 per axle which would bring the total to around $1100 parts and labor.

So that seems like a decent deal for $1100 regear for some new tires. not bad! I am not ready to do it yet, but i am glad i know what to expect when i go to get it done. Thanks@!
