Suspension Descisions

Hey guys,

Well i have gotten board with my torsion bar crank and 33" tires....however, i do not have the cash i would want to spend on 35" tires and a regear to go with a 6" lift. However, i feel that i can stick with my 33" tires and 3.73's if i get a lift of like 4 or 5"

THEREFORE, i am asking your guys opinions on who makes the best 4-5" lift kit for my truck. Also, i do not want to have to crank the torsion bars to get the listed height.

These are the lifts i have found so far let me konw what you think of them

1. Superlift F.I.T. 5-6" 99-06 K1500 Silverado/Sierra 1500 (6-lug) w/rear leaf springs

---my concern with this is that it is very close to 6"

2. Trailmaster 4" 99-06 K1500 Pickup Lift kit

----sounds good i just dont konw about the company

3. Skyjacker 3" 99-05 6-lug K1500 Silverado/ Sierra

---too much money for so little lift...

4 Rancho 4" lift kit for 1500 6-lug

---dont konw about company

Thanks!

ALSO: Pictures of 4-5" lifts would be greatly apprecieated!

So what happens after you spend the money on the short lift and get tired of it and want to go higher? Then the money you spent on the little lift would be wasted. If there is even a remote possibility of wanting to go to a 6" then I wouldn't waste my money on the short lift.

Also be careful that some of those lifts are not a set of torsion bar keys and shock extenders for the front. (This would be the same as an extreme torsion bar crank.) The best is to lower the front differential with the spindle the full amount of lift.

I am currently saving for a 6 inch true lift(new leafs, etc) for my 96, I decided to hold off on other purchases to save for this. I have a few Qs which I suppose could benefit both me, others, and the original poster:

1. For the 6 inch lifts, who makes the best(most durable, comfortable, and stable) ones for a reasonable price(1200-2000)?

2. Are new wheels and tires an immediate neccessity?

3. What type of drop in mileage could one expect, and Would leaving the rear end at 3.73 with bigger wheels and tires balance that out? what about intake, exhaust, and tune, or is it VERY dramatic?

4. Can it be done on jack stands?

5. How much is vehicle stability compromised? On Trucks(tv show) they had some 6 inch lifts which seemed to hold the truck VERY firm.

6. Are there any other recomended accessories, i.e, track bars, bigger brakes?

Mike, from my understanding you would not want to go with anything more than a 33" tire due to your (our) gearing. Therefore, with this in mind i posted a poll about a 6" lift with 33" tires and most people said it would look really dumb so that is why i am now thinking a 4"

Ive seen a 6" with 33's and it didnt look bad at all also for 250$ you could get 33's with a body lift. i know its not the best but for the money its what i chose barely rubs with 305-70's on 10" rims could easily be fixed(rubbing) with tiny amount of trimming but i just leave it cuz it only does it backing up at a full turn

I wouldn't mind changing the gearing. Sure its work, but it would give me something to do in my copius free time. My current question is, should I buy a lift kit and install it as soon as I can afford it, and leave the stocks on for a little while? Or should I wait and buy better rims and tires along with a lift kit?

Also, mileage is somewhat important. So I am really curious to know what kind of a drop can be seen with that.
