Break in Oil question

I just picked up my new Silverado Friday. The truck has the 5.3 motor in it. I was planning on switching it to synthetic oil after its broken in. How many miles or oil changes before I can make the switch? I was guessing around 3000

Run the Original oil to the first oil change interval (3,000 miles)

then make the switch to Mobil 1.

Welcome to the forum. I currently run Mobile 1 in my truck. I waited untill I got 10K on my engine befor I changed.

I don't runn syn, but wouldn't it be better to change right away? Isn't there something about gaskets leaking after the switch?

I just had to answer that question myself.  I now have 2300 miles on my '02 GMC Z71.

 

I would recommend what I did.

 

Changed oil at 500 miles with non-synthetic

Changed oil at 1000 miles with non-synthetic

Changed oil at 2000 miles with Mobil 1 5x-30 synthetic

Will change again at 5000 miles and Mobil 1

 

BTW, I decided to use Castrol 5w-30 non-synthetic
