front hub/rotor

hi, i've got this noise coming from the front of my '94 silverado 3/4ton 4x4 (454). it's most apparent on dirt roads, like my driveway .6 miles long. this afternoon i pulled the front tires off and the only thing that i saw that appeared to be strange was that the hub and the rotor had a couple thou. play between them. years ago i worked in a automotive machine shop, and to the best of my memory when replacing hubs or rotors the press fit of the wheel studs held them together, with no movment. it doesn't appear to affect the steering or braking, it's just that d**n noise. i might add that i just bought this truck 2 months ago. when i first got it there was no sqeaks or rattles, it was tight. it's still tight, it's just that d**n noise. i just don't want to do more damage to my truck by drowning out that noise with my stereo, besides there's a guy's house i have to drive by every day and he's one of them misguided ford owners that looks for a reason to talk smack about anything that's not ford.

i hope i did this right and in the right place. any input would be great.

thank you, Jon

Don't mean to hyjack your thread but

ironically I'm having the same issue.

Mine is a vibrating noise and feel from the front left (that's what it feels like).

The frequency of the vibration increases/decreases with the speed of the truck.

However I don't notice it when I'm making a right hand turn or sweeping entrance to the freeway.

Could it be the tire?

I took it to where I bought the tires and their fast and I do mean fast diagnoses was a front hub/bearing assembly.

They were really busy that day and I'm not confident they gave it their full attention.

If I find out what my issue is, I'll post the answer here and perhaps it will help you with your problem.

You issue sounds like bearing, which I believe is integral to hub... Pricey too.
