What can I do with a 305?

Hi, I have a 90 C1500 Step-side, with a 305 TBI. I was wondering what I could do with it for better performance? I know th 350 would be the better choice for hi-performance, but i'm not looking for anything to go out and race, I was just wondering what kind of things I could do to a 305. I was thinking headers and an upgraded exhaust would be a good start. Any ideas would be great.

Thanks

Don't do anything that will hold you back when you do eventually put a bigger motor in :) Headers, cold air, roller rockers, etc are proven upgrades.

haha, good advice, this is just to hold me over untill i'm ready for a bigger motor. In the meantime, i think i'll start out with the exhaust and intake, and work my way from there. Has anyone ever used 350 heads on a 305? I heard it lowers the compression ratio, any thoughts?

if you get the large combustion chambers it will i can't remember my sizes of the top of my head. i think you can get 80something cc 70 60. most heads fit 289-400 motors or simply say 50 something to 90 is SB chevy

You can put 350 heads on a 305, but it's the 305 heads that have the smaller chambers IIRC. I'd suggest doing headers, exhaust, intake, cam, rockers, and maybe some head work, then, when you're ready for a 350, just swap blocks and put all your parts from your 305 onto your 350 (including the cam).
