VVT on New Engine Offerings

Recommended Posts

Anyone know the function of the VVT offered on the new SBC engines?

Is there a selenoid at each valve and operation controlled electronically independent of any camshaft?

Or is it still some type of multiple camshaft setup which switch cam profiles at certain rpm. Or the special ground cams that vary the valve timing by a fore/aft camshaft movement? Timing chain shifts? Hydraulic pressure variation in lifters?

Anybody got the lowdown?

It's done by altering the cam timing. I forget where I read about it (was it here in one of the news articles?) The gear on the camshaft has a mechanism that will rotate the outer gear ring + or - relative to the hub.
