Tailgate Decal Placement

To make a long story short, i went to the carwash today to wash my truck. I never use the brush, as im always afraid of a stone embedded in the brush to scratch the hell out of my truck (happened once).

 

Well, i took the power washer to the tailgate, and much to my dismay (I have the CHEVROLET logo spelled out in vinyl) The R comes right off. Now, this was no biggie, because the "R" was already peeling, and i had intentions of changing my tailgate...

 

I want to make the look of it from this...

 

 

 

To this...

 

 

Or maybe, to save money...take the 2006 look...

 

 

What abouts do i go to remove the rest of the vinyl? I could powerwash it...seems like rubbing alcohol took away the residue, but i figure there's gotta be an easier way than popping quarters into the box while i run around and spray it.

Try using a hairdryer and heating up each letter until the glue gives and the letters peel off. Use an adhesive remover like goo-b-gone to remove the remaining adhesive.

Yep, hairdryer or heat gun will work great.

 

IMO - I would peel them off and leave them off, nothing looks better then a naked tailgate IMO

3M makes a spray that peels(Dissolves) off decals and the glue with absolutely no harm to the paint or clear coat. The only problem is I can't remember the name of the stuff. Go check a 3m catalogue or a store that sells 3M stuff, I'm sure it is listed there.

The previous owner of the truck broke the tailgate bezel, so he reapplied it with stickyback tape (industrial). The problem was, that when it rained, it left a white almost concrete substance in a single line down the tailgate...ive tried everything to get it off, and nothing will get it. To the paint, its white, and its literally like concrete. On the plastic, its horribly fused to it, looking like a left cement on a part of my bumper to dry,

 

Wonder what would take that off

Pressure washer seems to work well...

 

But a hairdryer is almost as effective. But i bet your the only guy on the block with a CHEV OLET

Carwash soap, water and a clay bar should clean that right up
