check oil light?

iam new to gm trucks i did a oil change 1000 miles ago and just recently the check oil light has come on i have a 2001 gmc 2500hd 6.0 gas with 65000 miles basic truck no goodies the light comes on in the message center ive never had someone change my oil i do it myself and i bought it about 7 or 8 thousand miles ago so i dont know if theres a reset for the message center but like i said i dont have any goodies ie power windows or doorlocks so i dont have a digital computer readout with gas miles ave miles a gallon and suff like that so just woundering what this means and how to fix thanxs

wow...all one sentance. Kind of difficult to read.

 

Anyways, you need to reset the computer that keeps track of oil changes. Turn on the iginition but don't start the truck. Press the gas pedal 4 times (WOT) then start the truck. That should reset the 'change oil'.

actually if it is indeed a "check-oil" light you should do just that, check your oil level, if it is low, top it off, and if not......possible sensor/cluster issue, now if the message is "change-oil" than yes the aforementioned remedy is correct.

sorry about the one sentence. well the words are change engine oil i apoligize i was wrong i didnt evan know my truck had that. wow well now i need alittle info on this message, how many miles does the computer go befor the light comes on is it 3000 miles? cause ive gone past it since i bought the truck and i never cleared it just want to know the oem specs on the message sorry again and thanx for the help.

The computer doesnt go by straight mileage. From what i understand it uses various different indicators like mileage, driving style, temp, etc. to determine when to light the change oil indicator. The way to reset it was posted above and its also in your owners manual if you have one.
