Underbody coating

Recommended Posts

I guess what I want to know is if there is a reason Chevy does not spray the underbody with some sort of sealant to protect it from salt/sand/snow? Is this a job better done by a professional, or am I heading down to the autozone to buy a case of rattle-can spray applicators?

Thanks folks!

Over the years GM has changed the way they coat their metal parts making it unnecessary to undercoat your vehicle. Plus check your warranty you may void part of it by putting aftermaket undecoating on.

I live in the snowy/salty northeast and have not undercoated a vehicle since the 80's with not rusting problems.

GM does coat the frames.

Do not use aftermarket undercoating, all that stuff does is make a mess and clog up factory drain holes in your doors, rockers and other panels.

I run mine through a car wash or quarter car wash once a month or so to clean it up. Looks great after 160K miles and a few Michigan winters :ughdance:

Thanks guys, guess I expect to see the bottom of a vehicle covered in black tar and when I didn't on the truck it had me wondering/worrying a bit.

A car wash it is!
