I've got a stock '04 Silverado with a 5.3L...

i went to some races the other night... and saw some people manually shifting their AUTOMATIC transmission... i was thinking that cant be healthy for the tranny... or is there a right way to do it??? like starting off in 1... red-lining it... letting off the gas a little... shift gears to 2 and flooring it... red-lining it... letting of the gas a little.... and so forth....

also....

i was wondering if this is the best way to get all the power/speed out of my truck, by manually shifting 1 2 3 D, or just putting it in D and put it in Towing mode and flooring it, or just holding the brakes and reving the engine and then just flooring it, or some other action?? any of these actions wear down the tranny or the gears more than others?? Thanks!

leave it in drive, brake stand off the line. over revving shifting manually will lower your et's on a stock truck

When I was young, if I heard something like that, I used to think, "I wish I understood the zen art of powershifting..."

But now I realize that there is no zen art of powershifting.

Just a lot of people searching for the way...

They don't know any more than you do.

LEave it out of Towhaul and brake-lock off the line

Oh and roll into the throttle to prevent TM from bogging out the engine

By flooring the accelerator with the selector in "D" the engine will redline any ways. The ones manually shifting the automatic are just trying too hard to look like a professional. :)

Yeah leave it "D". and leave Tow/haul OFF. Then as they said hold the brake and rev to like 2800 if you can.

Tow/Haul is not your performance button. In fact in a racing situation its going to screw you because it changes your shift points.

Remember...when you take it all the way into the redline your horsepower and torque start going down dramatically...so let the engine shift where it believes its right

Dont use traction control, I took it off when I ran. Whenever I loose traction with it on the motor bogs. The tires will slide a little sure, but not horribly. I roasted my tires pretty good, even tho there not slicks, not sure if it helps on street tires or not. Probobly couldnt see the bed.

I dont know why anyone would shift an automatic in anything relatively (spell check) stock. It might work for some people, I dont know.

Next time I run, which will be next year with my schedule, Im going to try launching with a brake stand. When I did my run, i just let off the brakes and mashed it.
