Brand Loyalty

Tonight I watched a local news report. Living in TX (where more than one of four vehicles purchased is a truck), they made the assertion that the new Tundra would make a stir in the market. It was followed by the obligatory interviews by those claiming brand loyalty for Ford and Chevy and "the new guy" claiming Japanese trucks are the next step in evolution.

I was curious what ya'll think? Personally I'd be surprised if the Japanese brands made real headway this year. Nissan has spun their wheels thus far, and I contend that Toyota's gains will be offset by the introduction of the new GM platform. That being said, (I like the Sierra) but would not be surprised if it once again kept Chevy from taking the overall sales record from Ford. In a very unscientific survey, those I talked to(all domestic truck owners) were not interested in turning their trucks in for models outside what they own, and certainly, not outside domestic brands.

Ultimately I am curious if people would a) easily switch brands b) go to a brand that is new to the market?

The imports aren't going to put too big of a dent in the full-size truck markets until they start getting their foot in the door for some of the uber-massive fleet contracts that Ford and Chevrolet have been enjoying for decades.

But if they make good products, and the prices are competitive...They're going to start gaining quite a bit of ground, I'd imagine.

I think they'll do good, people who own imports now, will buy import trucks when they need one (everybody does eventually) I love my Chevy, but I would consider a Toyota Tundra, over the new Chevy! I do like the GMC tho! So no I'm not brand loyal!!

Agreed. I previously owned a Tacoma and loved it but I needed a full-size, so I looked at the Tundra and Titan, the prices were ridiculous, I got a Silverado with similar options for about 5k less than the Tundra and 4k less than the Titan, it was a no brainer.......but I did like that power sliding rear window on the CC Tundras though, but not worth 5g's :)

After owning a Nissan Hardbody for six years and not having any problems with it, I had considered buying a Frontier, that is untill I test drove my Chev. I am now sold on Bowties and will not go back to anything else.

nissian was the only made in america inport i considered fully. dad had real bad luck with his llast two fords so i didn't even look at them, the dodges were all leather 4x4 on the lots or stripped models with hand crank windows all 4x4. the nissian and chevy/gmc dealers were the only ones with trucks like i was looking for. nissian just wouldn't deal and then i found the MAX and was sold.

so honestly i don't have a brand to be loyal to. will i sttart with looking at gmc next time sure will i buy only gmc NO.

My first car was a GM product. Besides a VERY brief ownership of a non-GM car, I have owned nothing but GM. I have never had any major problems with a GM.

Now, as far as these new GM's, I don't hate them, but, they could have done alot better. I am holding onto my current GM for another 6 years, when I hand the keys to my son, and I go and buy a new one. They have plenty of time to bring something out worth while. And besides that, I don't care how ugly it is. You can't beat the reliabiltity I have gotten out of all of my vehicles over the years.

So, for me, it's a GM or nothing at all.

I have always owned GM (Chevy).

I will continue to buy GM.

I did own a little Toyota in collage for a while. Nice little car, but I like the size and feel of my Chevy's.

I grew up with oldsmobiles and chevys in the family. I've owned nothing but GM (might change tomorrow though, might pick up an '89 Jeep cherokee "beat up in the hills" hunting rig). GM hasn't let me stranded yet.

I've always shyed away from imports because all the ones I've been in have a lot of road noise and the seats aren't built for "huskey" people.

I've driven a fair number of 1984 to 2003 era Dodge pickups with various jobs and I'll never own one myself. Way too many breakdowns. Rented an Intrepid once, YUK!!

Got to Drive a 2004 Ford Excursion last year. It had the most uncomfortable seats I'd ever sat in. I spent most of the 5 hours behind the wheel screwing around with the seat adjustments. Felt like a 2x4 on end running right up the center of the seat.
