my parents have recently asked me to go pick up 60 bags of wood pellets. each bag is normally 40 lb. so i was wondering if its possible to carry that kind of weight (2400lbs) i know i could easily tow this kind of weight, but not toally sure about loading it in the bed.

95 K2500 8 lug, long bed, 454, 4.10 rear end gearing. i think i saw something about limits in my dad's manual maybe i should check mine. but maybe someone out there can help out.

With something like this just use a trailer.  You will spend way more time loading and unloading 60 bags of these things than its worth.  Sixty bags would take quite a creative loading solution, and you wouldn't have a very stable load when you do accomplish it.  Been there, done that, only with hay bales.  You would be able to handle the weight in the bed in my opinion, but you'd be making a whole lot more work for yourself.

I got to go with Jp on this one, especially if you have some sort of car trailer, or any other trailer that is low to the ground.  I'd much rather take the bags off the trailer then off the bed, it would be alot of work to pitch 60 bags in and out of the bed.  Especially down towards the end when things start getting piled up and you have to put them on top.  Not fun stuff.

you shouldn't have any trouble at all... I have carried 2 tons of lime in my 2500 many times without any trouble. they loaded with a forklift and I had them push the pallet up over the wheels. you could tell there was a lot of weight there but it wasn't unstable. 2400 pounds on an 8600# GVW truck should be just about enough weight to make it ride like a caddy.

well our utility trailer is currently loaded with trash and missing a tail light. and not totally sure if i want to use the sport hauler, tho it does have the tailgate/ramp. have to see how soon they need it.

Having a 3/4 ton truck 2,400lbs of weight will be noticable in the bed, but they truck will be far from the limits put on it by GM and the actual physical limits of the springs, frame, axle, brakes...... You'll be alright with that in payload
