Gear ratio?

by using a tuner gear ratio can be chage, in my car the gear ratio start fro 3.xx to 4.xx, can somebody explane to me the difference between low and high ratio?

Well basically the lower the numerical value of the gear i.e. 3.23, the lower the rpms at highway speed but the more the rpms in city driving, and less towing capacity. A higher numerical ratio i.e. 3.73 the higher the RPM's at highway speed but lower rpms in city and better towing capacity.

 

Basically lower numerical gearing is better for on highway driving and minimal towing. and the Higher numerical gear ratios the better the towing performance and the better the city driving. The higher numerical ration equates to better off-the-line performance.

 

If i understand your origional post you are asking about gear ratios in tuning software. Gear ratios are a physical change of the Ring and pinion set in the rear end. the ratio is determined by calculation the ratio of teeth on the ring to the number of teeth on the pinion. In actuallity the ratio represents the number of times the drive shaft turns in order for the wheels to make one full revolution.

 

The "final drive ratio" is affected also by the gearing of the transmission and the size of your tire.
