Need recommendations II:

I am planning on adding a tonneau cover to my truck, and I'd like some feedback on them.

 

First, to make things difficult, I have a Back Rack on the truck. I use the truck to carry things, so whatever cover I use should not be damaged by something being placed in the bed. In other words, if the mounts holding the cover mount inside the bedrails it won't work for me.

I'd like to be able to open all or part of the cover.

Preferrably, I would be able to open the front, or the rear, without opening the whole cover.

Also, it shouldn't lake up too much space if I have to take it off and stow it with the rest of my cargo. I never plan ahead far enough to think "Hey, I might buy something big today-maybe I should leave the cover at home."

 

I think I need the old-fashioned snap-style cover, with the snaps on the outside of the bed, below the tops of the rails. It'd have to be custom made to clear the mounts for the Back Rack, or it'd have to be a little shorter than normal, and I'll make a filler panel for where the rack is.

 

Anyone know of a product that meets my needs?

Is there anything I should know about when I shop for the cover?

My advice is use the rack only when you need it and buy an LT sport cover.

You may need to find a local canvas/tent/awning/marinecover business for something custom made. I have a Truxsport tonneau (Truxedo) on my 8ft box and really like it. It easily rolls up out of the way as I need all of the bed to haul the Yamaha Rhino, and I mean ALL the bed. I think they have a model that may work for you, fits inside bed rails?

 

What impressed me the most, is this company stood behind their product. My cover failed during a huge crosswind. They promptly sent a replacement cover and an updated latch, no questions asked. Very pleasant experience with customer service. (Shurco Automotive). They stood behind the product, thats rare these days.
