timing 5.7 vortec

Can some one help me out on how to time a 5.7l vortec. Its an a 99 tahoe 2wd Where putting a rebuild in it. first time doing a pull out on a vortec. any help would be great. thanks

Easiest way is probably to pull the distributor, turn the engine so that cylinder 1 is at top dead center on the compression stroke, and then reinstall the distributor so it's pointing to the #1 peg of the cap. Not really any different than on an older truck.
