dead battery?

So i get a call from my wife yesterday, she's waiting for my son from his basketball practice. Had the rear seat dvd player going for about 30 minutes, and her 07, two month old, 1800 mile yukon xl will not start. She says it initially cranked ok, then slowed dramatically. Tried again then just clicks. I get there, it seems like a dead battery. Odd to me, her same routine for the past 4 weeks. Look at the battery, only 615cca, perhaps it's a bit 'under batteried' for a loaded truck. Wait for roadside assistance, started up with their jumper box, guy said 'we've been seeing a lot of these new trucks with dead batteries..."

 

Anyone else? Car is going in on monday for some other stuff that isn't working correctly, so i'll have it check out then. Also, check engine light has been on since.

Same thing for me. Almost the exact same story. What did the dealer have to say?

It does not seem that a DVD would draw that much power, but if the battery is of marginal capacity, then do not operate the DVD with the engine off, or get a substantially higher capacity battery.

No idea if this helps your cases, but I have a 00 silverado and my battery was dying on me too. I checked the fuses and found that my power seat fuse was blown. After going though a few of those it was determined that a faulty wire was blowing the fuse and the blown fuse in turn created an intermitant draw on the battery. For me all I had to do was leave the fuse out, I no longer have power seats but i also saved my battery.

you may want to find a battery that has a higher reserve capacity rating.

if you want to run accessories on the battery, you should go with deep cycle

Assuming there is no abnormal drain or short in the electrical system, I would throw in an AGM (absorbed-glass mat) battery. You have probably seen them in some auto parts stores. They are unusual colors for batteries- blue, red, and yellow. These are the latest in battery design. I have one in my BMW motorcycle, so they even make them for bikes. Do a Google search on AGM batteries and you will see the difference.
